Karen Sahn

Karen is a longtime local and grew up in Aspen area. She attended college at the University of North Carolina competing in cross country and track. While at school she missed skiing and returned home deciding to make a career for herself in the ski industry. She became a member of the ski patrol at Aspen Highlands and trained to become an avalanche technician and member of the snow safety team where she has focused her energy for the past 7 years. In addition she manages the preseason boot compaction program which is the initial step in avalanche risk reduction at Highlands.

She took up rock climbing on Independence Pass to improve her ski mountaineering skills and add variety to running. She now spends her summers climbing, traveling to climb and guiding for Aspen Expeditions allowing her to work year round in the outdoor industry. She recently completed her AMGA Single Pitch Instructor training and continues to focus on helping others with their outdoor endeavors.
