Josh Hirshberg came to Aspen with extensive personal experience skiing and exploring throughout the Rocky Mountains, the desert Southwest, and the mountains of New England. Josh graduated from Prescott College with a BA in Social Ecology and Adventure Education. He is an AIARE Level 1 and 2 avalanche course leader, an AMGA certified Single Pitch Rock Instructor, and an AMGA trained Ski Guide.
Josh enjoys teaching in a variety of settings. He has taught for Prescott College and Colorado Mountain College. Previously, Josh forecasted for the Roaring Fork Avalanche Center, and he continues to provides observations for the Aspen region forecast from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
In the winter Josh guides lift accessed backcountry skiing, multi-day hut trips, and AIARE avalanche courses. Josh has taught avalanche courses around the state of Colorado and as far off as the Argentine Andes. In the summer Josh guides alpine climbs, rock climbs and overnight trekking/camping trips.
When not guiding, Josh enjoys all forms of skiing, biking, climbing, and adventuring. Josh is an avid photographer. He enjoys expanding his knowledge of natural history and ecology, and he does volunteer work combining his love for nature and social change.
