Castle Peak
Summit Climb (14,265')

Castle Peak offers the unique ability to 4-wheel drive to nearly 12,200' up the mountain for most of the summer months. This makes the mountain ideally suited for beginners and families that still want a true 14'er experience without having the longer more physical days that are usually associated with climbing such a big mountain. Yet, Castle Peak is truly remote in the heart of the Elk Mountain wilderness.

After leaving the car, we will ascend a short snow slope and attain the breath-taking north ridge 1,500' to the summit.

What you should Know:

Typical Itinerary

Itinerary

- With an alpine start we will 4-wheel into the Motezuma basin going as far as conditions permit. For most of the summer this is usually to the 12,200' parking area. Leaving the vehicle, we climb up a short easy snow slope to the north ridge of Castle. Following the trail along the ridge and shorter, steeper rocky ledges with amazing views of Pearl basin to the east and Conundrum Peak to the west. Once attaining the summit you will be rewarded with a 360 degree panorama of the Elk Mountain Range. Signing the summit register will give you a true sense of accomplishment after a real rocky mountain climbing experience.
