ItinerarySaturday - Approach day - Capitol Lake: The six and a half mile trek into Capitol Lake is one of the most beautiful hikes in the Aspen area. On this approach, we'll walk through alpine fields and cross over small mountain streams, finally reaching an alpine campsite at nearly 12,000 feet. Here we'll set up base camp next to Capitol Lake, a sparkling blue glacial lake perched under the ominous looking north face of Capitol and prepare for our summit day in the morning. Sunday - Summit day - Capitol Peak: With an alpine start we'll climb Capitol Peak via the Northeast or classic 'Knife Edge ridge'.
