From the ruins of Drukgyal Dzong (fortress of the Victorous Drukpas), below such beautiful peaks as Chomolhari and Jichu Drakye, you will hike through the heart of wildlife-rich Jigme Dorji Wangchuk National Park. The sky-piercing peaks, thunderous waterfalls, turquoise lakes and streams, rolling meadows filled with wildflowers, remote yak herders villages, and forests of rodhodendron, pine, juniper and fir provide the backdrop for this inspiring and challenging adventure. You will be rewarded with up-close views of Bhutan's two most beautiful peaks - Chomolhari and Jichu Drakye.

Itinerary

Days 1 & 2 - En route to Paro, Bhutan - Depart home for Paro, Bhutan via to Bangkok, Thailand.

Day 3 - Arrive in Paro - Arrive in Paro and check into our hotel in Paro. Rest of day for sightseeing.

Day 4 - Sightseeing in Paro - Full day of sightseeing in and around Paro to include the Taktsang Monastery.

Day 5 - Drukgyal Dzong to Shana - Drive to Drukgyal Dzong and begin our trek. Shana sits in an awe-inspiring meadow below a rustic small village. Distance: 11 miles; Time: 5 -6 hours

Day 6 - Shana to Thangthangkha - Trek to the beautiful Thangthangkha campsite (3,630m), a lovely meadow tucked beneath Chomolhari. Distance: 12 miles; Time: 6-7 hours

Day 7 - Thangthangkha to Jangothang - Trek to the beautiful meadows of Jangothang base camp at 10,000 feet. Distance: 10 miles; Time: 5-6 hours

Day 8 - Exploration in Jangothang - Full day to explore around Chomolhari Base Camp.

Day 9 - Jangothang to Tsophu - Today’s short and sweet hike up to the twin lakes of Tsophu. Distance: 4 miles

Day 10 - Tso Phu to Chorapang - Today we climb up to the Bangtoe-La Pass at 15,600 feet and drop down to camp at Chorapang. Distance: 9 miles

Day 11 - Chorapang to Thangboe - A steady morning climb up and over the Takalung-La Pass at 14,400 feet takes takes us to our camp in the wide valley of Thangboe. Distance: 7 miles

Day 12 - Thangboe to Shana/Drukgyal Dzong - We complete our circuit trek over a small pass still 4,500 feet above the valley floors. We trek out to the ruins of Drukgyal Dzong. Distance: 16 miles

Day 13 - Thimphu - We'll have a full day to explore Thimphu, Bhutan's exotic capital city.

Day 14 - Punakha - Drive over the Dochula Pass (10,000') to Punakha.

Day 15 - Sightseeing in Punakha - We will visit the spectacular Punthang Dzong.

Day 16 - Paro - Drive back to Paro.

Day 17 - Fly to Bangkok - Fly to Bangkok on Druk Air.

Day 18 - Arrive Home - Fly back to country of destination.
