Aspen Expeditions specializes in bringing the strong skier or rider into the the high country winter environment! Ski mountaineering introduces the advanced skier to out-of-area skiing.

This private course is designed for the advanced skier/ rider who wants to take it to the next level.

This will give you an introduction to the techniques and mind set needed for true ski mountaineering. Skills cover some fundamental mountaineering skills such as: ice axe use, boot and ski crampon use, self arrest, anchor and belay rappel techniques. We will also go over glacial travel, mixed climbing and steep skinning and down hill skiing techniques.

Includes: AMGA trained or certified ski guide, avalanche travel equipment, ice axe and crampons.

Does not include: personal backcountry skiing or riding set up, guide gratuity, food, transportation.

Itinerary

Day 1: Training day - Mountaineering training day: Skills lesson and application on lift accessed backcountry terrain in Aspen.


Day 2: Lift accessed peak ascent - Lift accessed peak ascent/ decent in Aspen, incorporate new skills with steeper terrain.

Day 3: Elk Mountain peak ski - Early start summit attempt on a classic Elk Mountain peak.
