Aspen Ski Descents
Ski Mountaineering Course

Overview

Aspen Expeditions specializes in bringing our strong skier into the the high country winter environment! Ski mountaineering introduces the advanced skier to out-of-area skiing.

This course is designed for the advanced skier/ rider who wants to take it to the next level. Maybe you have done a fair amount of winter tree skiing, and some easier spring objectives, but not the bigger steeper peaks. This course will give you an introduction to the techniques and mind set needed for true ski mountaineering. During the three day progression we will cover some fundamental mountaineering skills such as: ice axe use, boot and ski crampon use, self arrest, anchor and belay rappel techniques. We will also go over glacial travel, mixed climbing and steep skinning and down hill skiing techniques. Our goal is to train you so that you feel comfortable enough to venture out on your own at the end of the course.
